Now, the Kardashian sisters are the ones feeling the pain. Kim, Kourtney and Khloe, as well as their mother, Kris Jenner, are all being sued to the tune of $75 million by Revenue Resource Group for breach of contract.

The lawsuit claims the famous trio signed a two-year agreement, and the company wants them to pay for bailing on their promise to endorse the shady card. A lawyer for RRG told E! that the terminated deal, plus the negative publicity that ensued, has “effectively put this company out of business.”

In RadarOnline’s report, Pamela Banks of the Consumers Union explains the backlash about the debit card and the Kardashians’ implicit endorsement of shopping beyond one’s means. “Tying a card to someone who is famous or wealthy can get more consumers to say, ‘I want to be more like the rich and famous.’ … But prepaid debit cards do not have the same protections that traditional debit cards have, and often have hidden fees that eat away at their value.”

Indeed, once the government launched an aggressive investigation in November into the plan’s “draconian” fees (the card reportedly cost up to $99.95 to purchase, $7.95 per month to use after the first year, $6 for customer service calls and up to $500 in penalties for lost cards) the Kardashians cut ties with the company.

It seems like this herd of tweens is hella pumped about the upcoming Strokes show at South By Southwest, a popular music art + technology festival that is happening in Austin, TX. The MTVu Woodies happened last night, and this is probably the first time u have ever heard of them. Like all awards shows, they don't really mean anything, and just produce pictures + videos of ppl trying to look like they have 'made it.'

Here are some pictures of bands that are both 'trying to be alt/indie' by attending, but also trying to 'go mainstream' and get called up to the 'Big Leagues of MTV' so that they can sell records 2 Middle American +Altweens.

Donald Glover apparently hosted the show. He is a wannabe relevant rapper who is totally entry level because he just raps sillie lyrics over indie band samples. He is sorta like the prototypical entry-level NBC comedian who thinks he is more relevant + funnie + creative than he is when he is actually just on an overhyped NBC comedy that no1 watches except for losers who stream things on Hulu.

Speaking of alt indie negro rapp, here is the popular rap crew Odd Future. I guess MTV is trying to 'get in on the ground floor' like many indie tastemaking sources 2 say 'we created them' too by inviting them 2 this event.

Here is Das Racist wondering why they didn't get as much #swag buzz as Odd Future bc they are 'indie rappers' too. Must not be black enough.

Jack White played some 'popup show' in the back of some trailer. This seems like something ppl would do in the 1950s, but not sure if it is really as innovative these days. I guess it is just supposed to 'generate blog buzz' or something, but I honestly thought Jack White had retired, but I guess he will probably never retire and become one of those old ass men who plays boring music and every1 still has to pretend it is good.

Anyways, he has some sort of gimmick 'popup shop' mobile record store. It is just some trailer, and he is driving around SXSW. I guess that's what u do at SXSW, try to create zany memes that get reblogged or something.

2011 mtvU Woodie Awards

Sleigh Bells played at some fake awards show called the "MTVu Woodie Awards." I think they sold a lot of albums, but performances at MTV won't really help u to win over Pitchforkian-wave critics who resent u for selling so many albums and licensing your songs to Samsung commercials. Anyways, they played some song called "Riot Rhythm" at the MTVu Woodie Awards. I think MTVu is MTV's attempt to have an indie channel, but basically all of the bands that go on there are only hoping to make it to MTV2, then make it to the MTV big leagues.

Did they 'crush it'?

Sometimes I wonder 'what is the future of the blogosphere?' Will ppl get bored reading boring blog posts with boring words, pictures, videos, and widgets? What can we do to make the 'live concert experience' completely obsolete and offer consumers a way to stay home and still feel like they are at a live concert, except without all of the hassles that come along with the live experience.

Pitchfork seems to be launching Pitchfork 3D at SXSW to 'take the mp3 blog experience 2 the next level.' I am not sure what all of these ppl are watching. Maybe they are watching a buzzband in 3D. Or just some video. I am not sure. The only buzzband I have seen in 3D is the Avatars, fronted by iconic indie songstress Sigourney Weaver.

Here is some 'high definition video footage' of Thom Yorke's surprise DJ set last week, or whenever that happened. I figured that he was 'supporting' the KING OF LIMBS album, but it seems like he is moving on with his own career and trying to distance himself from what a huge flop the King of Limbs was, and he is just moving on with his own career. He is releasing some MP3s with dubstep legends Burial and Four Tet, probably because he wants to be taken more seriously as a dubstep solo buzzband.

Here is a new music video by Justice directed by Romain Gavras, the 'horrorcore director' who created the shocking ginger genocide video by M.I.A. Anyways, he couldn't do anything violent this time because it was a commercial for Adidas, but I guess u have to make some $$$$ instead of just producing violent videos that 'shock the internet.'

Anyways, this video features Katy Perry, but it also features popular NBA basketball player Derrick Rose (AKA Derrick Brose), and the popular international footballer Lionel Messi.

I just saw this picture of Lykke Li on the cover of SPIN Magazine. I feel like SPIN hasn't really gone 'all out' Rolling Stone strategy and put Snooki/Jimmy Fallon/Other tweeny celebs on their cover, but maybe that means that they aren't serious enough abt wanting to sell magazines 'by all means necessary.' They put Lykke Li on the cover, and I am not sure if she is 'popular enough' 2 sell units, but maybe they are just trying to say 'we think Lykke Li is popular/will be successful and we want to be famous 4 hyping her.'

Anyways, Lykke Li looks like she is 'show off more skin' than ever these days, which is a GREAT career move for any female in the industry. Our most successful female artists have followed that model, so there's no reason for them to think they can do it any other way. Personally, I'd like to see even more of Lykke's body, but she is still growing as a potential slutwaver + probably getting her body into perfect shape + getting used to showing it off.

American Apparel is having an annual 'Factory Flea Market sale' at SXSW, which I think is just where they sell the clothes that no1 buys, so it is sorta like the alt-est selection of Am Appy. I remember they had one of these in London, and a riot broke out because the clothes were so 'in demand.' [link]. Twin Shadow is a 2k10 buzzband, but it looks like he is 'trying 2 go mainstream' after remixing Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." I wonder what his motives are. Maybe was just 'effing around' late 1 nite. Maybe trying to get a #1 hit on the hype machine. Maybe trying to get Lady Gaga's attention so that he can 'collab' with her and go mainstream. Can't really tell... Feel like this might not even be Twin Shadow, just some1 using Twin Shadowy gimmicks and doing a remix.

Anyways, I sorta just skipped around this remix, and it was probably kinda 'whatever', but u gotta give Twin Shadow props for the album Forget. One day we're going to look back on 2k10 and say "That is the only album that I still really listen 2." But most ppl will be like "Oh ya... That's when Kanye received a 10.0, right?"

May people ask whether or not Snacks the Cat is happy to be in the custody of Bethany Cosentino and Nathan Williams... aka "Best Coast" and "WAVVES." However, this exclusive video gives as a portal into the world of Snacks, and we can finally ask... "Is Snacks happy to be with Bethers?"

Here is what a cat body language expert who lives next door to my parents in suburbia had to say:

It is clear that there is lots of tension and hostility within this cat. You can see a lot of sadness, and a few abandonment issues, but overall he is a VERY chill cat. With the right owner who gives him the right kind of love, he could be one of the most talented buzz cats in the world, but right now he seems very miserable and angsty...

You can also tell that this cat's lungs have been sabotaged by second hand smoke, whether it is cigarettes or marijuana cigarettes. Cats don't like drugs, except for cat nip. Whoever is behind the camera is clearly a HUGE enemy of this cat, who has morphed from an extrovert cat to an anti-social cat. I will be praying for this poor cat tonight. May he find happiness some how.

Failed Indie Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal launches Etsy store to try 2 make money

Maggie Gyllenhall is a famous indie actress, but more importantly, she is the brother of Jake Gyllenhaal who played Donnie Darko and a homosexual who got murdered bro in Brokeback Mountains Beyond Mountains. Anyways, not sure how her career is going because she launched an Etsy store and is selling headwraps/ 'dread wraps' for $25 a pop... It seems like Etsy is some sort of gimmick marketplace where failed creative types go to scrape together money from people who are actively looking to waste money.

The name of her store is 'Intergalactic Apparel', which seems to be way more alt than 'American' Appy.

This dread wrap/headband is made mostly out of up-cycled sweater material and brown velvet. Its really soft and warm. I got a little carried away when I was making it so it is a little wider than I usually make them but then there is just more to love :)

I braided strips of up-cycled fabric to create a soft and stretchy tie that makes this Interstellar Headband completely free size and will fit just about anyone!

The Strokes just 'launched' an album stream for their new album "Angles." I remember every1 was excited abt this album, but now every1 feels just like 'ehh... whatever' abt it. Maybe I will go to one of their rock n roll concerts and keep yelling at them to 'PLAY UR OLD SONGS. THEY ARE WAY BTTR.' Sorta makes u wonder if The Strokes have entered the MGMT phase of their career where they are kinda like 'ehhh' but every1 is just like 'maybe they'll regroup and write some songs that sound like their old ones.' U just never know with buzzbands... That's why u have to live in the moment with them and ride their memes like there's no 2morrow.

Justice has some new song/album called "Civilization." And we finally get 2 hear it.

It seems like a 'huge relief' that they stuck to their banger gimmick. The BIGGEST MISTAKE most buzzbands make is abandoning the gimmick that made them successful just because they feel 2 much pressure 2 'write something new and innovative', or in many cases, they will have toured playing the same songs for the last 3 years and feel disgusted by their buzz pop sounds.

The song seems bangery, filtery, and there also seem to be 'samples' of random 'civilization-sounding' shit... Like swords and crowds of people via rebellions, 'historically epic' stuff or whatever. I guess that is a good gimmick? 'Civilization' seems like something we all need 2 reflect on.

James Blake invades America to play his foreign dubstep noise

James Blake apparently 'invaded' American [via foreign soil], and played a show somewhere in Brooklyn bc that is probably one of the only dense areas of our country where ppl know him. This is basically 'a huge moment' for his career bc if he blows/is too boring live on his American tour/at sxsw, it might stunt his buzz as a buzz artist.

I am considering going to SXSW just to write 'immensely negative reviews' of his shows just to protect American buzz. Sometimes I regret buzzing/taste-making The XX because they are foreigners.

As yall know, I am a huge fan of the following buzz topics:
a) tweens
b) tween stars
c) parents who enable their kids to become viral memes
d) cyberbullying
e) memes that expose the intellectual class/caste system on the internet.

The tween pop of Rebecca Black in her hit viral video "Friday" has really offered us a great opportunity to pull our head out of Justin Bieber's tween bum hole and think about what it means to be a tween pop sensation. Tween sensations are 4% human and 96% human memes gone wild. It's great to live in an era where we finally understand that no1 will be taken seriously, nor will they remain 'famous' 'forever' just because they were associated with something that won them widespread cultural notoriety. In fact, it is great to watch these super memes 'flame out', forced to re-evaluate their career + monetary decisions long after their [via the VH1 celeb reality theory]. Sorta wish we could go back in time and post-ironically consumer Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, and C. Thomas Howell in their meme primes.

The tweenosphere is one of the most interesting cultural spheres because the intellectual upperclass gets to witness horrible products/manufactured human beings being branded + marketed + sold to long tail tweens who would trade anything for a taste of 'fame' a.k.a. virality. I sorta wonder if watching all of these tweens broadcast their feelings on twitter, their vlogs on youtube, and their self-pix on dailybooth provide the ultimate 'birth control.' The fear of bringing a brain dead, lamestreamer, consumer-wave tween into this world, and sort of having to 'let them consume tween products' so that they can fit in at school. Just because our parents did it for us doesn't mean we have to extend the courtesy to our spawn.

I sort of wish I could be a rich parent with 3-5 kids, and enable my beautiful daughter to become a tween pop star. She will sing along to pop songs in the car, and I will take her to a regional talent scout + music + video producer. They will tell me if I pay them $5k-10k, they will produce a video that will showcase my daughter's talents, and give Disney and Nickelodeon scouts a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to see that my daughter has the talent, willingness, and drive to become the next big tween sensation.

I wish I had birthed Rebecca Black and let her know that she could accomplish anything, whether it was 'becoming a singer', 'becoming a viral meme', or 'getting a tween Disney contract.'

Sometimes I wish I could put myself in the shoes of a tween who sees that one of their videos has accumulated 1 million-10 million views on youtube. How do they rationalize it? How many hits make u famous? How many hits ensure that you will never be forgotten?

I remember when the hit buzzband Final Placement wrote a song and produced a music video that transcended both bro-rock, Christian rock, and the North Face fleece-wave genre. [link to original post]

It seems like this new band has totally 'transcended' the internet, creating a new model by which bands can reach a mass market of listeners. Maybe the goal needs 2 change from 'trying to make good music', but instead, making a laughable meme that appeals to millions of internet users.

Solange Knowles is on a neverending quest to find her niche in the indiesphere. She always collabs with the Dirty Projectors like the one time she sang on stage with them and tried to 'out-sing' the 3 keut altbaguettes in their band [link]. She also sings with Of Montreal even though they are like 0% relevant. Anyways, she wrote some new song with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear and George Lewis Jr. of Twin Shadow [SPONSORED BY COCA COLA] in order to let ppl know that Africans don't have water. I guess it is always good to get a free MP3, but they are sorta killing my Western world blogosphere vibe by letting me know that some ppl can't take a poop and flush the toilet with several gallons of water.

Disco Naïveté points to a video of a song resulting from a collaboration between Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor, Solange Knowles, and Twin Shadow called "Kenya". The three artists teamed up to record the song for the Coca Cola Foundation's Replenish Africa Initiative (or RAIN for short), which "brings together business, local government, NGOs and committed individuals to tackle the problem of access to water and sanitation in Africa," according to their website.

"To me, water is something that comes in a bottle or else it might as well be from the Third World."

I am generally a fan of Twin Shadow + Chris Taylor production projects, but Solange Knowles kinda kills the vibe for me... I'm not sure if I'll ever accept her as an indie artist, even if she hired a team of producers from the most relevant indie buzzbands. The track is sorta ambient, but I don't know if African people would like it... Like it might be 'too progressive' for them.

Animal Collective apparently has a new album coming out in 2k11, but this isn't it. This is just some mix tape thingy that they made for the shoes that they designed [link]. Just sorta some Daft-Punk-style product branding now they have to follow thru to get this shoe company more press. Kinda annoying... I really wish this was a new Animal Collective album so that I could analyze it + determine whether or not it lived up to their previous albums' standards.

Here is some sort of 'album art' / 'mix tape cover.' Sorta some 'dark' doodles, but I guess that's just what we are supposed to expect from Animal Collective. Honestly, I am getting sorta exhausted by their humility and abstract personal brands... I really need them to OVERHAUL on their next album cycle and stop being such introverts.

Death Cab for Cutie's horrible new album art is totally lamestream

I just saw this album art for the new Death Cab for Cutie album "Codes and Keys." It seems like it is some sort of custom Wheat Thin. Or maybe Zooey Deschanel did an 'arts and crafts project' and forced Benjamin Gibbard 2 put it on the cover but the band is all like 'nooo' but Ben is like "I was in the Postal Service, bitches!" Really confused. I can't help but think about who Death Cab for Cutie used 2 b, and what they used to mean to alt... and just wonder how they got to where they are now.

What does this have 2 do with Codes or Keys? Should the name of this album be "HASHTAGS & TRENDING TOPICS"?

I just watched this trailer for a short film inspired by the Arcade Fire album 'The Suburbs' called Scenes From The Suburbs. It is basically just going to be the long form video for the hit music video "The Suburbs" which was directed by Spike Jonze. Not really that interesting to me. If I wanted to watch 'Scenes from the Suburbs', I'd just go outside and walk around my neighborhood (since I had to move back in with my parents after a rough stretch where I quit my office job).

The story seems to be about the military taking over the_suburbs, and teens trying to make sure that they had meaningful existences. Just the usual high school stuff. Riding BMX bikes, fingerbanging the same girl as your bros did, and wishing ur parents understood u.

Do yall think tons of entry levelers are gonna buy this 'dvd' and be all like 'I am a true Arcade Fire fan because I care abt the story behind the music and bc Spike used 'Wake Up' for Where the Wild Things Are book movie'?

Some1 invents 'hipster traps' to capture and maim 'effing hipsters' in the wild

It seems like some sort of big game hunter has moved beyond hunting exotic animals like emus, polar bears, panda bears, manatees, and coral reefs, and is looking to hunt relevant alternative subcultures of humans. Placed within this trap are a pair of wayfarers, a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, a pack of American Spirits cigarettes, and some sort of yellow anal beads (can't tell what those are). This is a trap that is designed to imprison 'hipsters.'

Maybe it's not a 'big game hunter.' Maybe it is just some zany local artist who thinks he will 'break thru' by jumping on the hipster bashing meme (plus his dad had some bear traps hanging around). Using a violent image like the concept of the bear trap, the artist desires to not only bash the 'effing hipster' but to violently maim him or her.

Would yall ever get caught in a 'hipster trap' with entry level wayfarers?

I am not too familiar with Caroline Polachek or Chairlift, but I know that their song was used in some iPod commercial post-Feist because it 'sounded indie' [link], and then one time she sang on a song that Washed Out wrote.

She has a really solid indie body, and I think she has been known to wear 'provocative' things on stage. This is a HUGE album for Justice bc they have the opportunity to leapfrog Daft Punk to become way more relevant than them because every1 is disappointed in Daft Punk bc all they ever do now is release crappy bleepbloop electro and license their brand to popular franchises. While you have to respect Daft Punk's brand monetization, it seems like Justice has a huge opportunity to become the #1 electro duo in the history of electro.
